AN EVALUATION OF ELECTRICITY INFRASTRUCTURE AS AN IMPEDIMENT TO DIGITAL ECONOMY GROWTH IN NIGER STATE

ABSTRACT

This study was carried out on An evaluation of electricity infrastructure as an impediment to digital economy growth in Niger state. Specifically, the study aimed todetermine whether a relationship exists between electricity infrastructure and a digital economy, determine whether a relationship exists between electricity infrastructure and economic growth in Niger state, and to evaluate whether a lack of electricity infrastructure impedes the digital economy and economic growth of Niger state. The study employed the survey descriptive research design. Questionnaire was used for data collection which was raised against a five Likert scale of Strongly Agree(SA), Agree(A), Undecided(U), Disagree(D), and Strongly Disagree(SD), and was analysed using the frequency counts, and percentages. A total of 100 respondents were conveniently selected as sample size comprising of staffs of electricity company in Niger State. From the responses obtained and analysed, the findings revealed that a lack of electricity infrastructure impede the digital economy and economic growth of Niger State. On the basis of these findings, it was recommended that given the critical role of electricity infrastructure in facilitating both the digital economy and economic growth, it is imperative for policymakers in Niger State to prioritize investment in this sector. This investment should focus on upgrading existing infrastructure, expanding coverage to underserved areas, and ensuring reliability and stability of power supply. Additionally, efforts should be made to incorporate renewable energy sources into the electricity grid to enhance sustainability and resilience.
